Kovincted was one of the best albums this year. Released in late 2006, it hasn’t reached no1. on Billboard 200, but it’s performance helped Akon to gain top pop artist honor.

Akon is also in top at number of hits in Billboard Hot 100 Songs where he has 6 songs: #3 - The Sweet Escape (with Gwen Stephani) , #8 - I wanna love you (feat. Snoop Dogg), #11 - Don’t Matter (this is my favorite), #15 - Smach That (feat. Eminem), #33 - Bartender (feat T-Pain) and #58 - I Tried (Feat Bone Thugs-N-Harmony)

hopefully next year would be like this one for akon, or maybe even better.

The R&B singer Akon opted for the preppy look when he posed this week for a mug shot in upstate New York. Akon (real name: Aliaune Damala Thiam) was photographed by cops when he appeared in a Fishkill court to enter a not guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child. During a June concert, the 34-year-old Akon tossed a 15 year old teenage fan off the stage at Dutchess Stadium after the boy was apparently fingered for throwing something at the performer. Police began probing Akon after camera phone video of the incident surfaced online. Akon is next due I court on January 16.

Thursday at 8:30 a.m. PST (1600 GMT), Grammy nominations took place at Hollywood. Akon, a Grammy nominee last year, also went to No. 2, with his second release, “Konvicted.” The album generated two No. 1 singles.

The Grammys, determined by 12,000 music industry professionals who belong to the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, are supposed to focus solely on creative excellence. But commercial success is a useful way of getting voters’ attention. Other artists who have a good shot of being nominated on Thursday include Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Rihanna, John Fogerty, Amy Winehouse, John Legend and Ozzy Osbourne.

The 50th annual Grammy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on February 10.
